Last week my family went on a trip to the Smoky Mountains. Experiencing fall in the mountains of East Tennessee was a beautiful, life-giving trip. Even as my calves were burning from walking up a mountain, my soul was rested and filled by the beauty of waterfalls and golden colors.
Before our trip, I prepared an autumn playlist. I was inspired to do this by two podcast episodes: this one on The Next Right Thing and this one on The Good List. As a lover of all kind of the music, I have always loved making mixed tapes/CD’s/playlists! But I’d never made a playlist based on a season, because what exactly does fall sound like?
I listened to a few autumn playlists, and my favorite is this one from Myquillyn Smith. Some of the songs on my list came straight from her suggestions. For my own list, I started dreaming of cozy, cabin vibes. I wanted something calm and relaxing my family could listen to in our Airbnb in the mountains. I imagined warm drinks and cozy socks and blankets.
And from what I’ve come up with, apparently to me, fall sounds like quick piano keys and soothing guitar strings. You can listen to my playlist on Spotify or Amazon. Scroll the list below to see all the songs if you can’t listen in either of those apps.
I’ve replaced my daughter’s regular Praise Baby music she was listening to at bedtime with my fall cabin list, and she hasn’t complained yet. She falls asleep pretty quickly to this list!
My dreams of being wrapped in cozy blankets, eating delicious cookies, sitting by the fire with my playlist going were only dreams! Usually I was listening to this list while preparing dinner after a day of hiking or bike riding. It was relaxing but also motivated me to make dinner.
I love how music can have an effect on your mood. I haven’t been grumpy while listening to this yet! How can I be mad while listening to “For the Beauty of the Earth”? I hope this list brings some calm to your life, but more importantly I hope it makes you rest in God’s goodness all around you!
Tell me in the comments: What song makes you think of fall? If you have your own fall playlist, share the link!
