Normally, I like to write about Biblical things. But today, for a change of pace, I’m leaving you a light-hearted, easy-to-read list of simple things that either filled my cup or drained it this summer. I’m combining two ideas from Emily Freeman’s The Next Right Thing podcast for my lists: Make the Most Important List and Record What You Learn.
LIFE-GIVING
1. Library Visits
We were at the library at least weekly. Someone else can entertain my kids for free at story time? Yes, please!
2. A Pedicure with a Friend
“Want to go have a pedicure with me?” must be the sweetest words. If you don’t have anyone inviting you for a pedicure, go invite someone to go with you. Or if you don’t like feet, go get manicures instead!
Also good, pedicures with daughters. Sorry for the pic of toes, but baby girl did not want to be left out and her little sandaled foot is too cute not to share.
3. Small group Bible Studies
Right now I’m in two different groups. In one group, we’re reading Think Good (this book changed my life). And in the other we’re reading The Armor of God (also an amazing book).
4. Ruth Chou Simons talking about Instagram on Purpose
If you don’t follow Ruth Chou Simons on Instagram, go follow her now.
5. Cleaning out the Pantry
The cleaning out part wasn’t that fun, but the end result makes me so glad I did it. I just wish I didn’t have to do this so often.
6. Fast-paced Fiction.
It’s been hard for me to read fiction lately. I get bored and stop reading – I don’t want details, just give me the story! But The Crown’s Game was quick and easy to read. Just what I needed. If you like royalty, competition, and magic then maybe it’s a book for you too!
7. All the water – the beach, pools, spray parks, water parks
There’s nothing better on 100 degree days than being in the water.
8. Cool-ish days in July
80 degrees with a breeze in July? It was amazing!
LIFE-DRAINING
1. Overflowing toilet water raining down in the kitchen
I don’t even want to talk about it.
2. Post-tonsillectomy diet for a picky nine-year-old
He doesn’t like mac ‘n cheese or mashed potatoes, y’all.
3. Summer camps that start at eight in the morning
What was I thinking?!
4. Lost (or wet) library books
I paid for three books this summer. We’ve got to do better.
