This post is for Five Minute Friday, a community of writers who use a one-word prompt to write for five minutes with no planning or editing. Today’s word is “quick.”
The world moves by quickly they say.
The earth is always spinning on its axis, but is the earth moving quickly or is it us?
We want answers and solutions now, not tomorrow, but good things take time to develop.
Relationships take time to grow into friendships.
Diseases take time to be treated or cured.
Skill takes many practices.
The most delicious dinners are not quick but slow to come together.
We feel like time with our children is gone in the blink of an eye.
Have we stopped to savor? Can we slow our bodies down to wait patiently?
Can we slow our thoughts down enough to think about God?
Can we slow down our schedules enough that there’s time for connection?
Can we stop blaming the world for moving so quickly—when maybe it’s just us?
Jesus took time to pray and to spend time with people. In my mind, I don’t ever imagine him as rushed. So why do we think we have to be so quick—quick answers, quick decisions, quick actions? It’s not our job to save the world—it was His, and He didn’t seem in a hurry about it.
It’s in the busyness that we claim we’re doing it for God. But did God ever tell us to be busy?
“Martha, Martha” He said to the one rushing around. Your sister has chosen the right thing.
Before we rush out the door, rush to the next activity, rush to do chores, let’s ask…
Have I taken time to sit at the feet of Jesus today?
