This post is for Five Minute Friday, a community of writers who use a one-word prompt to write for five minutes with no planning or editing. Today’s word is “slow.”
Summer is for slow mornings waking up.
Summer is for making homemade ice cream instead of eating store bought.
Summer is for letting food cook in the crock pot all day.
Summer is for family walks after dinner.
Summer is for lazy days in the sunshine or inside because of the rain.
Summer is for movies and popcorn during the day.
Summer is for baking with little hands helping.
Summer is for picnics outside.
Summer is for reading more books.
Summer is for taking your time because the days are longer.
Summer is for more time with friends.
It’s not a time to be rushed. It’s for taking time to let things grow as they should.
There may be a lot of activity but that does’t mean we are rushed. We slow down and enjoy the moments that are presented to us.
Summer is for longer prayers for wisdom, grace, patience, and intention.
Summer is for spending time dwelling on God’s Word.
Summer is a time to delight in the slow, the easy going, the things that take more time.
We don’t always need to be rushed. A rushed heart carries a lot of stress and impatience.
A heart that’s rested enjoys peace.

I love this! My children have two more weeks of school, because of a late start to the school year becasue of Covid. I am so looking forward to participating in these Summer activities with my kids. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about a slow Summer! I am your neighbor at Five Minute Friday.

This is our first week of summer and it’s been nice but also a little busier than I would like 😆 Reminding myself to take it slow!

I love this post and how you wrote it. Yes, we do not always need to be rushed and the older I get the more I realize this. We need to delight in the slow, the easy going, and slow down enough to listen to what the Lord has to say to us. Thanks for sharing.

We need to slow down enough to listen, yes to that!

I love summer for more time to read, and also road trips — to be a tourist in your own state.

That sounds fun!
