One of the best ways to start a habit is to pair it with something you enjoy or something you do everyday. When I started reading my Bible daily, it was after the older two kids were gone to school (the calm after the chaos), during the baby’s nap time (highlight of my day), with coffee (the best drink ever), and with relaxing music (for me and for baby). And usually I was under a cozy blanket (my favorite place to be).
That’s what worked for me, but that may not be what works for you. And after a while, I had to change my timing. Once my youngest started sleeping longer during the night and her nap time moved, I started waking up earlier than everyone and reading my Bible in the morning. And I am absolutely not a morning person. But I had seen the benefit of spending time in God’s Word regularly, and I wanted to continue my good habit.
The great thing about She Reads Truth is there are so many options for you. You will find something that works for you with all the different ways to interact in their community.
WHAT IS SHE READS TRUTH?
She Reads Truth is a company that encourages and helps women to read God’s Word every day. They develop reading plans for you to follow and then host a community of women from all over the world to share what they are learning.
STUDY BOOKS
The study books are what started me reading my Bible. I did not know that having a place to jot down messy notes would help me to process better and learn more than just by reading alone. Wide margins, beautiful designs, and helpful extras (like timelines) are some of the reasons why I love the study books.
The study books only contain Scripture and no devotional material. I love it because each daily reading will contain Scripture from the book/topic you’re studying and then Scripture that relates to it as well. For example, in the Genesis study book, each day will have the Scripture from Genesis to read for that day. Then each day also has some passages from other books of the Bible as well. And it’s all printed right in the book for you! The study books are the most expensive option, but still my favorite.
SHE READS TRUTH HAS AN APP
If you prefer to read from a phone or tablet, the app is a good choice. The app is free and there are many free plans to follow. The most current plans will have a charge of 2.99 or less.
With the app, you have the choice to participate in the community if you’d like. After reading the Scripture and the devotional (both on the app), then you have the choice to post a comment or read other readers’ comments.
FREE DAILY DEVOTIONALS
If you choose to buy the book, which does not contain any writing besides Scripture, you can use the website to read their daily devotionals for free. The daily devotional comes from the Scripture reading for that day.
What I love about this is that you can subscribe to the daily readings, and have them sent to your email so you don’t have to go searching for them everyday. You don’t have to buy the book or use the app to get these emails for free! The She Reads Truth community desires for each woman to be in her Bible everyday—they have so many free options to choose from!
KIDS READ TRUTH AND HE READS TRUTH
You may not know that She Reads Truth has materials for “hes” and kids too!
For Kids, they have study books , art journals, flash cards, and other activities. They have books for younger kids and books for older kids as well. What’s really fun is when a new kid product comes out at the same time as the plan materials for the “she” in your family too—you and your kids can study the same book at the same time! Checkout Kids Read Truth.
For the man in your life, they always have a He Reads Truth book that is the same Scriptures as the She Reads Truth plan, so you can read them together. He Reads Truth has their own site that also has daily devotionals that go along with the Scripture reading for that day. Click here for He Reads Truth.
THE PODCAST
The podcast is the newest edition to the She Reads Truth family, and I absolutely love it! These women, Rachel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams, love the Bible and I love hearing them talk about it. A new episode comes out each week, and they are talking about the Scripture in the current reading plan. Read along with them, then tune in to hear more about what you’re reading.
A SUBSCRIPTION BOX!
This is the only part of She Reads Truth that I have not participated in. But a friend of mine told me if you’re buying each book as they come out, you save money by joining their subscription. You also get extras each month, and not just the books!
For the sake of honesty, I bought a Bible which has lots of room for me to write notes, so now I no longer buy the study books. But I absolutely miss them. They are so beautifully designed! Each time they have a new one, I am definitely tempted to buy it.
And while I no longer buy them, I still recommend them for starting a Bible reading habit. I used the app a few times before buying the books, and that did not work for me. I was reading, but then I would move on and not think about it anymore. With writing and taking notes, I get to process what I’m learning. Sometimes I don’t realize what I’m learning until I write out my thoughts!
SHE READS TRUTH COUPON CODE!
