This post is for Five Minute Friday, a community of writers who use a one-word prompt to write for five minutes with no planning or editing. Today’s word is “quiet.”
Quiet is a must for your heart.
A time to pause and remove the worry and the hurry.
God speaks as a whisper.
A whisper is missed when it’s too loud in the room. And then you’re left trying to read lips. I don’t know about you, but I’m not a good lip reader.
When the bush was burning in front of Moses, he had to notice it in the first place. He had to stop what he was doing to see that the bush was on fire, but not actually being destroyed.
He could have seen the fire and carried on. I do this sometimes. My child is hurting and I keep on moving because we have somewhere to be.
My husband speaks and I’m too tired to continue the conversation.
A friend looks sad and I don’t address it because it could get awkward.
But if we slow down and listen we may hear the encouragement we ourselves need.
You are loved even when you are late.
You are cherished even when you are tired and weary.
You are needed even if it gets awkward.
Quiet calms and restores.
Quiet can fill empty spaces as much as noise does.
I went outside with my morning cup of coffee and watched the wind blow in the trees while the birds flew around. I can’t help but feel closer to God when I’m outside as an observer of His creation.
Allow some quiet to fill the empty spaces in you today.

Beautiful post, Natalie. I can’t help but think that it was a quietness in Moses’ spirit that allowed him to notice not only the burning bush, but that there was something different about it. Too often, I miss the special qualities of a moment because I am not quiet in my heart.

Quietness allows us not only to hear, but to see! How beautiful. Thanks for reading!

I agree, Natalie, “I can’t help but feel closer to God when I’m outside as an observer of His creation.” I so enjoy hearing the doves sing when I’m outside.
I honestly hadn’t put words to this as you have, “A friend looks sad and I don’t address it because it could get awkward. ~ You are needed even if it gets awkward.” It’s an reminder to be intentional and press in and ‘be there’ for others.

Yes, intentional. Instead of allowing ourselves to hurry and skip over something, ignoring the quiet voice that’s there. Thanks for your comment!
