📸Share the Imperfect Photos

Today, I’ve been participating in #onedayhh, a fun social media challenge hosted by @laura.tremaine to share photos of your regular, imperfect day.

I’ve never participated, but I’ve always enjoyed and cheered from the sidelines. The reason I’ve watched for so long is because of the thoughts that swirl when I consider joining. Maybe you’ve thought them too:

-No one wants to see my regular daily routines.
-My photos are never good enough.
-I have nothing interesting to share.
-No one cares.
-I will annoy people by posting so much.

Wow, to see them in writing is just not pretty. This year, I decided to ignore all that stuff in my head and just do it. Because I wholly believe in Tremaine’s message that sharing our lives leads to greater connection. Talk about practicing what I’m preaching.

Here’s what I’m learning (and the day is not even over yet), sharing the unpolished moments shows that we are not alone in the mess or the monotony. That’s where relationships are built, in the regular, imperfect, messy, vulnerable, authentic moments.

So if perfection has been holding you back, consider this your permission slip: share the imperfect photos.
True connection doesn’t require perfection.

Would you feel more lonely in a big city or a smal

Would you feel more lonely in a big city or a small town? Perhaps in a small town you feel seen and known. Or maybe in a big city you feel connected to something bigger than yourself.

There is no right answer, it’s just a question for you to consider.

I’m a small town girl. I grew up where everyone knows your name and your uncle’s name too. So big cities can be overwhelming while navigating public transportation and not getting run over by the hurried walkers. But I also love the hustle and bustle and noise of a city.

My family recently went to Washington, DC, and I didn’t expect to find connection there. But what I found is that we all have a part to play because:

History celebrates the movers and the shakers, and the thinkers and the dreamers.
There are museums for the ones that built buildings and the ones that built stories.
We remember the ones who stood center stage and the ones who hid.
Memorials remind us of the ones who fought and the ones who brought healing.

There is a place for everyone here on this green and blue earth that God created. He made us all in His image, to fulfill His will in our own unique ways. The body needs all its parts to work properly, and so does the world.

May you find connection and your role to play wherever you are today💖
