This post is for Five Minute Friday, a community of writers who use a one-word prompt to write for five minutes with no planning or editing. Today’s word is “scared.”

Scared to be quiet, scared to speak up.
Scared to be small, scared to expand.
Scared to try, scared not to try.
Scared to give, scared to receive.
Scared to go, scared to stay.
Scared to share, scared to hold it in.
Scared to ask, scared to answer.
Scared to just listen, scared to respond.
Scared to jump in, but scared to stay on the ledge.
Scared to invite, scared not to be invited.
Scared to be invisible—and to be overlooked.
Fear paralyzes no matter the choices. When fear controls, we don’t move forward, and we don’t move backwards either.
Except, growth is the small steps forward over time. So by staying still, we are indeed moving backwards.
Scared to move forward, but scared to drift backwards.
Paralysis—the result of overthinking, hesitancy, and fear. How can we make choices that move us forward, nearer to God and others?
Decide who you want to be, and make your choices from there.
Face your fears with the courage and knowledge that you are becoming a better person💖
