Insecurity in its most basic definition is lacking a feeling of safety. This is problematic for Christians because God is our safety, our refuge, our help in times of trouble. These Bible verses for overcoming insecurity may be of help to you if you’re struggling with where you are placing your confidence.
Insecurity is also a perpetual and constant belief that you are of no value, that your opinions and desires do not matter compared to anyone else’s. It’s a state of living in fear of any trouble or failure, because difficulties prove that you’re not capable. Anxiety and hidden pride keep you from living a full and free life.
Ironically, insecurity often goes hand in hand with pride. As Christians we’re called to the opposite of pride—humility. To tackle our insecurities, we must remember that we are loved by God, He is our security, and He is faithful. Here are ten Bible verses to help overcome insecurity.
“You and I are going to have to come to a place where we stop handing people the kind of power only God should wield over us…The answer is to deal with the insecurity, believing that everything God says about us is true.”
–Beth Moore, So Long Insecurity, You’ve Been a Bad Friend to Us
You are Loved
The Lord rejoices over you. “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 NIV
You weren’t made to be like anyone else. We will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original. Galatians 5:26, The Message
You are one of God’s children. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. I John 3:1 NKJV
God is Your Security
With God your feet are secure. As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. Psalm 18:30-33 NIV
God’s wisdom keeps you strong. Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8 CSB
Without God, you live in fear. When I was secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” Lord, when you showed your favor, you made me stand like a strong mountain; when you hid your face, I was terrified. Psalm 30:6-7 CSB
God gives you strength and dignity. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. Proverbs 31:25
God gives you strength and security. The Lord gives his people strength; the Lord grants his people security. Psalm 29:11 NET
God’s people will triumph, no matter the circumstances here on earth. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. Psalm 112:7-8 NIV
God will save you from destruction. You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. Proverbs 3:25-26 NLT
God gives you the strength to endure. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 NIV
God’s wisdom is greater than the wisdom of the world. Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. Proverbs 29:25 NIV
God is Faithful
God will help you as He has helped others in the past. No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear. I Corinthians 10:13 NET
God welcomes you with love. But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15 ESV
